COMPO BIO buying guide: soil, fertiliser and plant protection
The COMPO BIO range covers three steps of organic gardening: the right soil when you plant or repot, fertiliser during the growing season and plant protection when pests or weeds appear. Use the table to find the right product type, then read the tips below.

Potting soil, soil improvers and mulch
COMPO BIO Universal Potting Soil Peat-Free (35 L) is the all-round choice for pots, tubs and borders. The Universal Potting Soil approx. 50% Lighter (40 L, also as a 2-pack) is easier to carry and suits balcony boxes and large pots that you want to move. For specific plants there is Potting Soil Herbs (10 L) and Citrus & Mediterranean Plants Potting Soil (20 L). In the garden, Compo Bio Soil Enhancer for New Plantings (40 L) and COMPO BIO Cow Manure (10 L or 15 L) are worked into the soil before planting, Lime Pellets (10 kg) are used on soil that is too acidic, and Miscanthus Mulch (50 L) covers bare soil between plants.
- Work soil enhancer and manure into the top layer of soil rather than leaving it on the surface.
- Spread mulch on moist soil and keep it slightly away from stems.
Organic fertiliser: granules or liquid
Granular fertilisers are scattered around plants and worked in lightly, so they feed over a longer period. The range includes Fertilizer Roses & Flowering Plants (3.5 kg), Fertilizer Tomatoes & Spices (1.2 kg), Vegetable Garden Fertilizer (750 g), Universal Fertilizer (3.5 kg), Blue Granules Fertilizer (4 kg) and Lawn Fertilizer 2 in 1 (1.5 kg). Liquid fertilisers such as Liquid Fertilizer Tomatoes (1 L), Liquid Fertilizer Herbs (1 L) and Nettle Liquid Manure (1.5 L) are mixed into the watering can, which is practical for pots and container plants.
- Follow the dose on the pack; more fertiliser does not mean more growth.
- Water after spreading granules, unless rain is forecast.
Granuplant for indoor plants
Granuplant hydro granules are an alternative to potting soil for indoor plants and come in sizes from 3 L (indoor version) to 40 L. Use them for hydroculture or as a drainage layer at the bottom of pots. Feed plants in hydro granules with a liquid feed such as Granuplant Plant Food (500 ml).
Plant protection from the BIO range
Choose a product that names your problem on the label. Bio Anti-Snail pellets come in packs from 400 g to 2 kg, and Barrière Anti-Snail in 4 kg, for beds with lettuce, hostas and other plants that slugs love. COMPO BIO Insect Stop Universal Concentrate (250 ml) is diluted and sprayed against the insects listed on the label. For weeds and moss there is a 1 L concentrate, a 750 ml ready-to-use spray and a Path & Terrace Spray; rules on weed control on paved surfaces differ by country. Blue and yellow sticky traps and Flycatchers catch flying insects, and the Box Tree Moth Trap (refills available) helps you spot box tree moths early.

How do I use COMPO Bio Anti-Snail?
Scatter the pellets thinly and evenly around the plants you want to protect, at the dose stated on the pack, rather than in heaps. Start when the first slugs appear in spring and check the label for when to reapply. Always read the label before use and keep the pack out of reach of children and pets.
Which COMPO BIO fertiliser is best for tomatoes?
For tomatoes in the ground or in large containers, use COMPO BIO Fertilizer Tomatoes & Spices (1.2 kg) granules, worked into the soil at planting and during the season. For tomatoes in pots, COMPO BIO Liquid Fertilizer Tomatoes (1 L) is mixed into the watering can. Follow the dose on the pack and avoid overfeeding.
